My way of sharing my adventures in South Africa with you while studying abroad! Clearly my background had to be a hipster elephant :) - Samantha Rae |
I hope everyone had a great and filling Thanksgiving. It was definitely hard being away from the family last night and made me that more anxious to come home.
In lighter news, my mom flys out today!! so keep her in your thoughts for a safe flight! :)
Love,
Sammie Xx
Done with exams and school! Weeeoo. Can’t say it was my best semester of college ever, but I can say I’ve been to school in Africa so… But anyways basically 10 days still my mom gets here! We have a great trip/activities planned :)
Happy Birthday to my beautiful grandmother!! I wish I could be in America celebrating with you but I will be home soon! I love and miss you :)
We (Erica, Mel, Tanya, Alan, Lynray and Matt) went to Muizenberg for a kite festival and to the beach where they have lots of colourful houses! It was a really fun and nice day. The kite festival was geared more for little kids but I bought a kite and made it fly, so I was pretty satisfied with myself.
All I want is a California burrito.
Exactly one month till I’m back in America! Eek
Last night we went out to dinner for a roommates birthday and she picked this place called Fork, which only serves tapas, which apparently are just very small food items. They seriously don’t serve normal portions of anything. Just tiny little appetizers. I guess the point is to get a bunch and everyone can try one of everything but we had a group of like 15+ people…. So clearly that didn’t work out.. So Tanya and I decided to split two appetizers and one of them was literally a ravioli. one ravioli!! I mean it was an amazing ravioli but I would have liked to have at least a plate of them… And we also got these really good beef things with the tiniest onion rings I’ve ever seen on them and a small cracker. Luckily there were 4 of those so I got two… It was a fun dinner and I’m glad she had a good night, but I will admit that Mel Max and I went to Food Inn afterwards… which is basically giant plates of noodles, rice, Indian food, Asian food, I don’t even know but I do know I got a normal sized meal at the end of the night. :)
Yesterday morning Tanya, Max, Mel and I went downtown to try out Charly’s Bakery. It’s basically South Africa’s Cake Boss, there was filming going on and they have the most amazing cakes! I wish I had better quality pictures but I ate quiche which was bomb. The best quiche I’ve ever had. I used to think I didn’t like quiche just because of the name but I do like it.. a lot. Then Tanya and Mel got chocolate cheesecake and it was soooooooo good, I can’t convey in words how delicious it was. And then I got the red velvet cupcake for myself, it has a real rose petal on it and I got the chocolate cupcake with their slogan on it for Matt :) I’m really excited to eat them because I know they’re going to be delicious. We saw two amazing barbie cakes where the cake is the barbies ball gown dress and then there’s a barbie sticking out of it and also a really cool halloween giant spider cake! They had a lot of awesome cakes on display and things they’ve been featured in. Moral of the story: I’m mad I discovered this place 3.5 months in with 1 month left..
Erica, Dani. and I at the Waterfront after we couldn’t go to Robben Island. It was probably the best day in Cape Town, weather wise, since I’ve been there. The sun was shining and there was no wind and no rain! Table Mountain in the background :) It was wonderful.
Yesterday 30 of us from our program woke up to get ready to take a taxi to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was a prisoner, and we get all the way to the Waterfront (which is beautiful) and we get on the ferry and they make an announcement saying that the boat is broken and we all had to get off… no second boat available and that we just had to reschedule or get a refund. Luckily we were at the Waterfront so we just went and got a nice lunch and then taxied back and then went swimming in the UCT pool. So it turned out to be a fun day anyways but it was a let down…
